The cause of a vehicle fire that occurred Wednesday in north Columbia remains under investigation, a Columbia Fire Department news release states.

At 1:52 p.m., fire crews responded to the fire at 1910 Newton Drive. The car's owner, Tawanda Fair, reported the fire after noticing smoke coming out of her 1995 Kia Sportage, when she returned home.

Upon arrival, fire crews found flames coming from both the car's engine and passenger compartments and quickly extinguished the flames using hose lines. Fair told fire crews that she recently had some mechanical service work performed on the car.

No injuries or damage to nearby buildings were reported, but the vehicle is considered a total loss, the release states.
