Gov.-elect Nixon to hold potluck inaugural

Thursday, December 11, 2008 | 2:09 p.m. CST

JEFFERSON CITY — On the campaign trail, Jay Nixon drew hearty laughs with a punchline that he would hold the first-ever inaugural potluck if elected governor.

It turns out he was serious.

Nixon announced Thursday that he will host a potluck dinner immediately after he is sworn in as governor Jan. 12.

Nixon’s campaign committee plans to provide hamburgers. Members of the general public are invited to bring cookies and desserts to share.

The meal is scheduled to run from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at the Capitol Plaza Hotel in Jefferson City. Anyone can attend.
