JEFFERSON CITY — A state judge who has already blocked a proposed hog farm near Arrow Rock now says animal feeding operations are allowed closer to the historic site.
Cole County Judge Patricia Joyce ruled in August that concentrated animal feeding operations could not be within 15 miles of Arrow Rock. Earlier this week, Joyce revised the buffer to two miles.
The Missouri Department of Natural Resources and those challenging the Arrow Rock permit disagree whether that buffer now applies to all animal feeding operations or just the farm at issue in the case.
The lawsuit was brought by Arrow Rock and the Missouri Parks Association.
Joyce sided with the critics of the Arrow Rock hog farm because an attorney representing the Department of Natural Resources did not respond to allegations of fact raised by the lawsuit.
