COLUMBIA — An assault near the corner of Washington and Hickman avenues on Sunday night left a victim with apparent knife wounds on his hands, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.

According to the release, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, the victim was walking near the intersection of Washington and Hickman when he was approached by three men.

One of the men approached him with a shiny object, believed to be a knife, and attempted to strike him with it. The victim put his hands up to block the attack, resulting in minor cuts to both hands. The same man that attacked the victim with the blade then head butted the victim, the release stated.

The other two men stood and watched the incident while it took place, according to the release. The suspects then left the area in an unknown direction.

The victim was taken via ambulance to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and released.
