KANSAS CITY — The University of Missouri is looking to join the growing bioscience research market in the Kansas City area.

The Kansas City Star reported Monday on its Web site that the university has signed a memorandum of understanding with city and economic development officials in the Kansas City suburb of Blue Springs to develop a 500-acre biosciences park.

Kansas City Power & Light is also providing seed money for the project now called the Missouri Innovation Park at Blue Springs.

Organizers estimate it will cost up to $70 million to buy the land on the south side of Interstate 70 and cost hundreds of millions more to add buildings and other infrastructure.

The money could come from tax increment financing, state income and sales taxes or private financing.
