POPLAR BLUFF — Police say a man who has already spent time in prison for burglaries is back at it, committing more than 30 recent burglaries in the Poplar Bluff area.

Authorities last week arrested 40-year-old David Wayne Guthrie of the southeast Missouri town of Rombauer. Police say he was trying to run out of a home he was burglarizing.

Guthrie has reportedly linked himself to more than 30 burglaries over the last three to four months. The stolen property is valued at more than $50,000.

Guthrie was on parole for breaking into more than 40 Poplar Bluff area homes in the late 1990s. He was sentenced to more than 15 years in prison for those crimes.

He was arrested after a resident saw a man break into a home on Thursday. A dozen officers surrounded the home.
