PrintCOLUMBIA — City Council voted on Monday night to rescind the city's contract with LaserCraft Inc., the company that was supposed to install red light traffic safety cameras at certain intersections, according to a news release from Toni Messina, the city's director of public communications. The resolution also initiates a request for proposals from other companies to install and operate red light cameras.
Assistant City Manager Tony St. Romaine said that LaserCraft agreed with the staff that rescinding the contract was the best option.
"Although we believed that LaserCraft understood our expectations, it recently became very clear that the company had some misconceptions," St. Romaine said in the release. "The company determined it could not deliver the desired product within the budget or timeline that the city desired."
St. Romaine said the resolution will provide an opportunity for the city to move ahead with the red-light camera initiative.
The city's contract with LaserCraft began in late 2007.

Why doesn't the city contract with the U.S. Treasury Department? More specifically; the IRS. After all, this whole thing is just a revenue raising scam anyway. A private enterprise who attempted to raise revenue in such a disingenuous and deceptive manner would be charged with racketeering (or have a Chair named after him at the university of Missouri).
