COLUMBIA — The Columbia Police Department is investigating a shooting incident that occurred at the Richland Heights trailer park on Wednesday afternoon.

Police responded at 2:26 p.m. to a report of four or five shots fired at 3901 St. Charles Road, according to a Police Department news release. An uninvolved witness overheard several shots and saw individuals leaving the area. At 2:36 p.m., police were notified that two gunshot victims, both males in their early 20s, were at Columbia Regional Hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds, according to the release.

The victims were transferred to University Hospital. According to Sgt. Ken Hammond, one victim had a shotgun wound to his arm and side. The second victim had a single wound to his thigh that police say they believe came from a small-caliber gun, possibly a 9 mm pistol. The victims' names are not being released at this time. Hammond said the victims are not cooperating much and that there is a possibility the incident was drug-related.
