Too early to know how I-64 shutdown going

ST. LOUIS — St. Louis and Missouri Department of Transportation officials are waiting for a day free of winter weather before getting an idea of how the latest shutdown of Interstate 64 is going.

After nearly a year, the first 4-mile stretch of I-64 reopened Monday. But a second stretch was shut down, also for about a year, for major reconstruction. The latest shutdown of the St. Louis area's busiest interstate is from Interstate 170 east to Kingshighway.

Sleet, freezing rain and snow pelted the region Monday and Tuesday, so officials say they don't yet know how drivers are responding.

They do know that Forest Park Parkway is carrying too many cars, causing a slow commute in the morning and afternoon. Drivers are urged to try other routes.
