JEFFERSON CITY — A retired state prison director has been chosen by Gov.-elect Jay Nixon to direct the Missouri Department of Corrections.
Nixon said Thursday that he will appoint George Lombardi to head the department that oversees Missouri's prisons and probation and parole systems.
Lombardi, of Jefferson City, retired in February 2005 after a 33-year career with the department. He spent the last 18 of those as its director of adult institutions.
Since his retirement, Lombardi has worked as a consultant for the Missouri Youth Services Institute on juvenile offender issues.
Lombardi was a financial contributor to Nixon's gubernatorial campaign.
