PrintCOLUMBIA — Police are seeking a man and woman on drug charges after an investigation into a Wednesday shooting on St. Charles Road led police to a trailer containing 40 pounds of processed marijuana in bricks, illegal mushrooms, guns and assorted other drug paraphernalia, according to a Columbia Police news release.
Police have requested warrants from the Boone County Prosecutor's Office for the arrest of Christian A. Thames, 30, and Casey L. Baker, 23, on suspicion of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, the release stated.
Officers requested the arrest warrants after finding the bricks of marijuana, 3.5 ounces of psilocybin mushrooms, two shotguns, one handgun and numerous articles of drug paraphernalia, the release stated.
Two unidentified men are also being sought for their involvement in the shooting.
The search warrant was obtained Wednesday evening after the home's occupants denied officers permission to search the trailer for evidence regarding the shooting.
The shooting occurred at 2:16 p.m. when two armed men attempted to forcibly enter the trailer in which Thames, Baker and Jeffrey Nichols were inside with an unnamed adult and a child.
Before the men could enter the home, Thames grabbed a shotgun. Gunfire was then exchanged, during which Thames was shot in his left leg with a handgun fired by one of the men attempting to break in, the release stated.
While returning fire, Thames inadvertently shot Nichols in his left arm and shoulder. The armed men then fled the scene.
Nichols and Thames drove to Columbia Regional Hospital with non-life threatening gunshot wounds, and were uncooperative with police, the release states. After being transferred to University Hospital, Thames left Thursday morning against doctors' orders, the release stated.
