The Missouri State Water Patrol continued its recovery effort Thursday for John Paul Forget of Chesterfield, who is believed to have fallen into the Missouri River from an bridge on Interstate 70 while trying to avoid an oncoming tractor-trailer.
According to a dispatcher for the Missouri State Water Patrol there were no updates on the recovery of Forget as of Thursday evening.
Forget, a 20-year-old sophomore at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., was traveling with two others Tuesday when their eastbound car crashed on the bridge. When the three got out to inspect the damage to the car, Forget was almost struck by a semi-tractor trailer. He then fell from the bridge after he jumped to avoid the oncoming truck.
Water temperatures Tuesday night were in the low 30s, which could induce hypothermia within minutes, said Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp of the Boone County Fire Protection District.
