Forget, a 20-year-old sophomore at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kan., was traveling with two others Tuesday when their eastbound car crashed on the bridge. When the three got out to inspect the damage to the car, Forget was almost struck by a semi-tractor trailer. He then fell from the bridge after he jumped to avoid the oncoming truck.

Water temperatures Tuesday night were in the low 30s, which could induce hypothermia within minutes, said Division Chief Gale Blomenkamp of the Boone County Fire Protection District.
