Man who posed as federal agent to be sentenced

ST. LOUIS — A man who posed as a federal agent for two months in the eastern Missouri town of Gerald faces sentencing.

The sentencing of Bill Jakob is scheduled for Friday morning in U.S. District Court in St. Louis.

Jakob pleaded guilty in September to a long list of federal charges, including 13 counts of impersonating federal officers. Authorities say he carried a shotgun, participated in drug raids and made arrests until the ruse unraveled.

Jakob is eligible for up to 100 years of prison time.

In an interview with “60 Minutes” earlier this year, Jakob said his drug busts gave him an adrenalin rush and sense of purpose. They also prompted lawsuits against the town and led to the firing of Gerald’s police chief.
