School bus wreck closes Interstate 70 in downtown St. Louis

ST. LOUIS — A school bus accident forces the shutdown of Interstate 70 near downtown St. Louis.

The wreck happened during Friday morning rush hour near the 10th Street Exit on the interstate. The bus bound for Mehlville High School in St. Louis County apparently slid onto a concrete median, where it remained, straddling the barrier for some time.

Twenty-four children were on board. Several had minor injuries. No serious injuries were reported.

The interstate was shut down for a while after the wreck.

The cause of the accident was not immediately clear. The roadway was wet but temperatures were in the 50s so there was no ice. Sleet, freezing rain and snow caused several wrecks in St. Louis earlier in the week.
