Friday night duplex fire leaves woman, children homeless

COLUMBIA — Columbia firefighters were called Friday night to 1513 Olympic Blvd. after a Columbia woman arrived home to see flames through her window, according to a Fire Department news release.

Crews controlled the flames in the living room within 10 minutes.

There were no injuries.

Damage to the duplex, which is owned by Brittany Development, is estimated to be $40,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to the release. 

Candace Benton, the occupant of the home, and her two children, ages 2 months and 4 years, are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, according to the release.
