COLUMBIA — Columbia Fire Department firefighters helped retrieve a Boston terrier from a lake at Twin Lakes Park, 2500 Chapel Hill Road, on Tuesday morning, according to a department news release.
Firefighters arrived at the lake at 11:32 a.m. Tuesday to find that the dog had been chasing a duck when it ventured too far out onto the lake and fell through the ice. To get the dog, firefighters had to don special dry suits that are designed to protect the wearer from frigid water. They rescued the dog within 12 minutes of arriving on scene.
The dog was not injured and was taken to a local veterinarian for further evaluation, the release said.
