INDEPENDENCE — A St. Louis dog missing since October will be going home with its owners later this week after being picked up 240 miles away in suburban Kansas City.

The dog, named Toby, was found Monday night at an intersection in Independence. Kansas City's KMBC-TV said a motorist noticed the 1-year-old English springer spaniel and called Independence Animal Services.

Authorities were able to locate the dog's owners, thanks to a microchip that was properly registered.

Toby's owners, Mike and Ashley Meyercord, will pick up their dog on Friday.

The couple had planned to pick up Toby on Tuesday, but delayed the reunion because of bad weather.
