Man arrested after a short vehicle pursuit

COLUMBIA – A Columbia man was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession and resisting arrest after he led police on a short car chase Thursday, a Columbia Police Department news release states.

Gary C. Skaggs was arrested on suspicion of marijuana possession, resisting arrest and various other traffic related offenses, the release states.

At about 2:15 p.m., an officer attempted to stop Skaggs outside of an illegally parked vehicle at June and Clark lanes that was blocking traffic.

Skaggs then entered the vehicle and drove off . The officer gave chase and after a short car chase, Skaggs stopped the vehicle and fled on foot, the release states.

With the assistance of the Boone County K9 unit, Skaggs was located hiding next to a tree, and he was arrested.
