Teen taken to hospital after crash ends short chase

COLUMBIA — One teen was taken to the hospital after he and two other teens crashed their car into a ditch during a short police chase Thursday in northeast Columbia, a Columbia Police Department news release states.

At about 3 a.m., police received reports that three 15-year-old males were attempting to break into vehicles near Kelsey and Shamrock drives, the release states.

When police attempted to stop the suspects in the car they were driving, the driver drove away , the release states. A short car chase began, only to be end when the driver crashed into a ditch.

The suspects were caught as they got out of the vehicle. One suspect was transported to a hospital after officers noticed cuts on his face, which happened when he hit the windshield in the crash.

Officers found suspected stolen property inside the vehicle and are continuing their investigation, the release states.
