Five people have died in Kansas City wrecks in 2009

KANSAS CITY — Authorities say Kansas City has logged five traffic fatalities since the start of 2009.

Police say a 23-year-old woman is dead and three other people are injured after a car crashed into a pickup truck at 5:30 a.m. Friday. One of the injured parties is reported in critical condition, while the driver of the truck escaped serious injury.

A few hours earlier, one person died in another two-car crash on the same street, about 18 blocks to the north.

Three people perished in a fiery crash at 12:20 a.m. Thursday.

Police say 37-year-old Anatoliy Savinkov, of Overland Park, Kan., died after his car slammed into the stopped vehicle, which burst into flames. Two people in the second vehicle have not been identified.
