JEFFERSON CITY — State revenues continue to come in lower than last year, but the decline has become less pronounced.
The Missouri Office of Administration reported Tuesday that general revenues were down by 0.2 percent through December — the halfway point of the 2009 fiscal year. In previous months, revenues had trailed the prior year by higher percentages.
Sales and use taxes were down 3.8 percent compared with the first half of the 2008 fiscal year. Individual income tax revenues rose 4.9 percent, while corporate taxes fell 6.9 percent.
December collections were up almost 17 percent compared with the same month the previous year. Part of that growth came because of a late Thanksgiving and two extra working days in December this year.
