COLUMBIA — Missouri's newest congressman has secured seats on two committees close to his interests back home.
Rep. Blaine Luetkemeyer, a Republican from St. Elizabeth, has been named to the House Committee on Small Business and the House Committee on Agriculture. He has worked as both a cattle farmer and a banking and insurance executive in the Miller County town.
Luetkemeyer defeated Democrat Judy Baker for the 9th District House seat left open by Republican Kenny Hulshof's unsuccessful bid for Missouri governor. He's the only new member among the Missouri delegation, joining four other Republicans for a slim majority.
Fellow Republican Rep. Sam Graves of Tarkio is also a member of the Small Business Committee.
