COLUMBIA — Two Harrisburg men were arrested Friday night on drug-related charges after being stopped by a Boone County sheriff's deputy for driving a vehicle with expired registration.
According to a department news release, the deputy stopped the vehicle at about 9:45 p.m. Friday while on routine patrol in the 700 block of Demaret Drive, just outside of Columbia. The deputy determined that in addition to having expired registration, the vehicle had been reported stolen on Monday.
A subsequent search of the vehicle produced a bag containing approximately 235 grams of marijuana packaged for distribution and some electronic scales, according to the release.
Matthew James Hoppe, 34, of Harrisburg was arrested on suspicion of first-degree tampering, distribution of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and an outstanding St. Charles probation and parole warrant.
Cory Lamont Malone, 23, of Harrisburg was arrested on suspicion of distribution of a controlled substance and second-degree tampering.
As of 5 p.m. Saturday, Malone had been released from the Boone County Jail after posting $25,000 bond, Officer David Provorse said. Hoppe remains in the jail with bond set at $70,000.
