If you haven’t bought tickets to Columbia’s 16th annual diversity breakfast, you’re still in luck. Though ticket sales were supposed to close on Friday, organizers have extended the deadline until noon Tuesday.
Event organizer Steve Hollis on Monday afternoon said about 100 tickets remained.
Tickets cost $13 for adults and $11 for children 12 and younger and can be purchased at the Office of Community Services at 1005 W. Worley St. or over the phone at 874-7488.
Ticket sales must be made in advance; no tickets will be sold at the door.
This year’s breakfast, “Columbia Values Diversity: This We Believe,” honors the city’s commitment to cultural and racial understanding.
Hollis said this year’s celebration has special significance now that the nation has elected its first minority president. “I’m glad that the country is affirming what we here in Columbia value, which is diversity,” Hollis said.
The breakfast features performances by the Houston Snell Jazz Quartet and the Columbia Housing Authority “Moving Ahead” Youth Chorus as well as the presentation of this year’s individual and group Diversity Awards.
One highlight of the event is a multimedia performance of a piece named, “Life is a Mystery/Love is a Dancer,” created by David White, executive director of the Missouri Theatre Center for the Arts. Those attending the breakfast can “look forward to a very professional and exciting artistic presentation,” Hollis said.
The diversity breakfast will be held from 7 to 8:45 a.m. Thursday at the Holiday Inn Select Expo Center, 2200 I-70 Drive S.W.
