Car hits young cyclist

COLUMBIA — A 14-year-old bicyclist was hit by a car Tuesday morning at the intersection of Providence Drive and Austin Avenue, according to a news release from the Columbia Police Department.

Letisha Segura, 37, of Columbia was making a right turn from Austin Avenue onto Providence Drive when the young bicyclist pedaled into the intersection without stopping. The bicyclist moved directly into the path of the turning car and was hit, the release said.

The bicyclist was rushed to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries.

According ot the release Segura was cited for operating a motor vehicle without a valid license.
