HOLTS SUMMIT — Two young girls are dead after a mid-Missouri trailer fire.

Firefighters from three different departments responded to the blaze around 8 a.m. Thursday. It happened in a mobile home park north of Jefferson City.

The names of the victims weren't immediately released.

Neighbors told television station KRCG that the girls were 3 and 5 years old. The TV station reported that firefighters had to restrain the girl's father from trying to return to the trailer.

There was no fire hydrant near the trailer, and fire crews had to use a water truck.

The fire's cause is being investigated by the state fire marshal's office.
