COLUMBIA — Police arrested a 47-year-old woman on Thursday on suspicion of statutory rape of a 16-year-old boy, according to a Columbia Police Department news release.
Melody Link was arrested at 11:20 a.m. at her residence at 5740 E. Trace in East Hartsburg on suspicion of three counts of statutory rape and three counts of statutory sodomy, the release said.
Police said an investigation into her relationship with the victim began on Dec. 17, 2008, when the father of the victim told police that he suspected his son was sexually involved with Link. Link knew the victim's family, and the boy said during interviews with the Major Crimes Unit that the two had been sexually involved since August 2008, according to the release.
The victim said Link had rented a house at 200 E. Forest Ave. in Columbia where she would allow him and his friends to “hang out;" the sexual acts occurred at the residence, the release said.
Link was taken to the Columbia Police Department for processing and was then transported to Boone County Correctional Facility, the release said.
