LETTER: Bisphenol A is safe for consumption

The Jan. 9 article “To ban or not to ban: Bisphenol-A in food is OK with FDA but not with some scientists” might cause unnecessary alarm about the safety of Bisphenol A (BPA).

It’s important for your readers to know that BPA is one of the most tested materials in use today. After more than 40 years of extensive scientific investigation, the evidence shows no basis for heath concerns in humans at the very low levels of exposure people actually experience.

Furthermore, all materials intended for use with food – including BPA – must meet stringent FDA safety standards before they are allowed on the market.
