Ways to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

Celebrate at these free events.

8 a.m. —  Biscuits, potatoes, turkey sausage and bacon, eggs, juice and coffee will be served until noon at St. Luke United Methodist Church, 204 E. Ash. Call Almeta Crayton at 874-0284 or 529-2151 for more information or to make donations.

11 a.m. — A ceremony at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial at 800 S. Stadium Blvd., followed by a motorcade to a ceremony at Second Baptist Church, 407 E. Broadway. A free lunch will follow. Call 445-3231 for more information.

4 p.m. — These annual awards honor those who embody the values of Dr. King. This year's honorees are Vernis Harris-Laboy, Lorenzo Lawson, Miranda Arens and LOVE Inc.; Windsor Auditorium at Stephens College; call 876 - 7111 for more information.

6 p.m. — Gather at Douglass High School Gym, 310 N. Providence Road; candles are available for $2.

6:30 p.m. — Walk to St. Luke United Methodist Church, 204. E. Ash St.; a service will follow; call 874 - 6379 for more information.


Jan. 26:

2 p.m. — Panel discussion at Reynolds Journalism Institute, Room 200

7  p.m. — Semi-formal gala with "I Have a Dream" speech re-enactment, jazz music and refreshments; Stotler Lounge, Memorial Union.
