LETTER: Rosman's column critiquing Segert is flawed

I cannot overstate my disappointment with the judgment of the opinion editor of the Missourian. I found an opinion piece written by David Rosman (Jan. 16, 2009) about one of our most active and transparent elected officials (Columbia School Board member Ines Segert) to be extremely flawed.

Mr. Rosman called her untrustworthy and stated she should resign. How can this writer make such a statement when Mrs. Segert voices opinions at meetings and shares her reasoning with the electorate through the news media? Mr. Rosman's lack of thorough knowledge and research casts serious doubt on his conclusions and motives.

I find it ironic his writing was placed under the statement of founding Dean Walter Williams: "... I BELIEVE that clear thinking and clear statement, accuracy and fairness are fundamental to good journalism."

I could list other flaws, however I believe my point has been made. I would take Ines Segert over a whole busload of rubber stamper board members. Keep up the good work, Ines. I wish I could say the same for David Rosman and the opinion editor at the Columbia Missourian.
