PrintCOLUMBIA — A third Columbia man was indicted Monday in what prosecutors say is a $4 million conspiracy to distribute marijuana in Boone County, according to a news release from a U.S. attorney's office.
Galen Cutter Baxley, 25, was indicted on nine counts of participating in a conspiracy to distribute and possession with the intent to distribute 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana between 2005 and Dec. 23, 2008.
Two additional defendants, Eric McCauley and Robert Hocks, both 27, and Baxley were indicted on the same charges, stated the release from John F. Wood, U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri.
If convicted, the indictment would require the men to pay the government a total of $4,210,336, the alleged amount the trio made from the drug trafficking.
In February 2007, Columbia police arrested McCauley and confiscated 220 pounds of marijuana and $10,000 cash during two house searches. The marijuana seizure was one of the Columbia Police Department’s largest, according to the release.
In addition to the conspiracy indictment, Baxley is also charged with one count of possession with the intent to distribute marijuana in December 2008 in Jackson County.
According to the release, the Columbia Police Department Street Crimes Unit arrested Baxley on Friday. The Street Crimes Unit, created in July 2007, specializes in targeting “career criminals” and repeat offenders.
