COLUMBIA — Kenny Hulshof, a six-term Republican congressman from Columbia who recently lost a bid for Missouri governor, has a new job.
Hulshof will join the Kansas City-based law firms of Polsinelli Shalton Flannigan Suelthaus PC and Shugart Thomson & Kilroy, P.C., which will merge to become Polsinelli Shugart PC on Sunday.
Hulshof will join the firm's public policy practice group. In a news release Tuesday, the firms said Hulshof will bring extensive knowledge of public policy and related practices to the post. The public policy group provides expertise on issues such as federal and state taxation and advertising regulation, among others, to clients ranging from small businesses to large corporations.
Hulshof’s decision to join the firms stems from previous relationships with a number of Shugart Thomson & Kilroy attorneys.
“Kenny will be advising clients on governmental relations issues at the state and federal level,” W. Terrence Kilroy, chairman of the labor and employment group for Shugart, Thomson & Kilroy, P.C., said in an interview. “He will be valuable to clients on tax issues from his experience on the (House) Ways and Means Committee,” Kilroy said.
During his time in the U.S. House, Hulshof served on a number of other committees including the House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct and the Budget Committee. He will step back into the legal setting after serving as assistant attorney general under current Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon and working as an assistant prosecutor and public defender prior to his election as Missouri’s 9th District U.S. representative.

After the merger, Polsinelli Shugart PC will have more than 480 attorneys, with offices in 13 cities across the country. Hulshof will have offices in Missouri and Washington, D.C.
