The Boone County Fire Protection District began preliminary discussions on how to select a new fire chief on Thursday.
Board member Shelly Dometrorch presented proposals from four search firms specializing in finding and interviewing potential fire chiefs. The board is willing to spend between $9,500 and $30,000 on a search firm. The fire district’s annual budget is approximately $3.4 million, according to a fire district fact sheet.
In 2008, former Fire District Chief Steve Paulsell was forced to resign after concerns about his salary and contract were raised by board members. Scott Olsen has served as interim fire chief since Dec. 2.
The board will meet again to continue the process at 4 p.m. on Feb. 18.

Why does this sound exactly like City Council and what they did?
Will we see a repeat of that too in this selection?
Why not 0 and $30k, what is wrong with spending less than $9500.
What is wrong with hiring from with in should be the real question here.
I don't think internal candidates have been barred from applying. Do you have information to the contrary?
Here are the minutes from the meeting preceding the one reported in this story, I think:

This reminds me of a song that goes along with this entire process we have been reading about before the chief was ousted:
