HARRISONVILLE. — Prosecutors say a public defender has agreed to represent a Missouri man charged in the death of one of four children he is accused of fathering with his teenage daughter.
The 47-year-old father was scheduled for a hearing Thursday in Cass County Circuit Court, but the appearance was canceled because the public defender already had taken the case. A new court date has not been set.
The man is charged with second-degree murder in the baby's death, which authorities say was the result of the father not getting medical treatment for the child's pneumonia. He also is charged with endangering the welfare of a child, statutory rape and two counts each of incest and abandoning a corpse.
He was arrested last week and is being held in the Cass County jail.
Three of the four children the man allegedly fathered with his daughter are dead.
