Hy-Vee recalls two more peanut products

Thursday, January 29, 2009 | 8:10 p.m. CST

COLUMBIA — Hy-Vee is recalling two bakery products because they contain whole peanuts that could be contaminated with salmonella.

The recall of the two products—freshly made party mix and peanut brittle— comes after Hy-Vee announced the recall of peanut butter products on Jan. 17.

The new recall is precautionary; the products involved have not been directly linked to salmonella, according to a Hy-Vee news release.  The decision to recall the items was made after the Peanut Corporation of America expanded its recall to include all peanuts, the release states.

Hy-Vee stores in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Minnesota will be affected by the recall.

Consumers who have purchased recalled products are encouraged to destroy the items or return them to Hy-Vee for a full refund.
