BRANSON — Less than 24 hours after a Missouri Walmart was evacuated by a roof sagging under the weight of ice and snow, a second Walmart is closed for the same reason.
A structural engineer from the Walmart headquarters in Bentonville, Ark., was sent to southern Missouri to inspect the Mountain Grove store that was evacuated early Friday. The same engineer was in Branson on Thursday night while workers cleared ice and snow from the roof.
The engineer determined that the Branson store was safe and it was reopened at 7 a.m. Friday. He said the structure flexed as it was designed to do and the trusses did not exceed their tolerance levels.
Firefighters say the Mountain Grove Walmart will probably reopen late Friday after the roof is cleared and the inspector declares the building safe.
