PrintCOLUMBIA — Columbia residents have until Feb. 27 to review and comment on a draft Vision Implementation Report, which offers a plan for going forward with the goals and strategies of the “Imagine Columbia’s Future” report.
The draft implementation report was written by consultant Sarah Read of The Communications Center, who has spent considerable time reviewing the “Imagine Columbia’s Future” document and developing a strategy for how to bring it to fruition.

"Imagine Columbia's Future" is the product of a visioning process that began in May 2006 to identify goals for improving the city over the next several years.It is divided into 13 areas, including: arts and culture, community character, economic development, education, the environment, governance and decision-making.
The implementation report suggests the next steps for city government in 2010 and 2011 and an inventory of resources needed.
"We want the public's input, because this is a pretty significant step as we go forward with implementation," Assistant City Manager Paula Hertwig-Hopkins said. "Public communication is important because this whole process is citizen driven. It has been from the beginning, and it will continue to be."
Citizens have driven the visioning project since it began. Earlier versions of the vision report have all been available online, Read said.
"With each vision statement that we've put out there, we've gotten more feedback,” Read said. “This is the first time the entire report was put out there, and I expect to get a sizable amount of interest."
The public can comment on the report until 5 p.m., Feb. 27, 2009. The visioning report can be found at www.gocolumbiamo.com/Public_Comm/Visioning/. The vision committee, the Office of the City Manager, and Read are looking for both positive and negative feedback to help address the concerns of Columbia residents.
"There were very specific projects where people said, 'we have these particular needs,'" Read said. "I'm pretty sure there are other projects out there that need resources, too."
