JEFFERSON CITY — People can recycle used items containing mercury starting next week under a monthlong effort by the Department of Natural Resources.
The department says there are almost 90 sites around the state where people can drop off mercury-containing items such as thermometers or blood pressure cuffs. The program does not include compact fluorescent bulbs.
People are asked to put the items in two zipped plastic bags and in a sealed container, such as a coffee can. People are also asked to call the site beforehand and to not leave items if the site is closed.
Those with large quantities of mercury can arrange to have items picked up by calling 573-634-2436.
