JEFFERSON CITY — Gov. Jay Nixon selected DeKalb Associate Circuit Judge R. Brent Elliot as a circuit judge for the 43rd judicial circuit.

Nixon announced the appointment Monday. The circuit covers Caldwell, Clinton, Daviess, DeKalb and Livingston counties.

Elliot was first appointed as an associate circuit judge in 2000. The 54-year-old Stewartsville man was elected to the post in 2002 and re-elected in 2006. Before serving as a judge, Elliot was the prosecuting attorney for Livingston County.

Elliot graduated from the MU School of Law in 1980.

The circuit judge position became vacant when Stephen K. Griffin announced his retirement.
