COLUMBIA – A woman charged with stabbing her husband with a butcher knife Tuesday night had been beaten by him at least once in the past year, according to Boone County court records.

Tyra Mallory, 30, of Columbia, has been charged with armed criminal action and first-degree domestic assault for stabbing her husband, Aaron Mallory, 47.

Aaron Mallory was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon at University Hospital.

Police were called to the Mallorys' house at 907 Pannell St., in central Columbia, at 9:30 p.m. When they arrived, officers found Tyra Mallory in the front yard and took her into custody. Aaron Mallory was discovered unconscious in the front doorway to the home with two stab wounds, one in his upper arm and the other in his shoulder, Sgt. Ken Hammond said.

According to police, Tyra Mallory made incriminating remarks to a domestic violence investigator after she was taken into custody.

She was being held at the Boone County Jail on $200,000 bond Wednesday.

Within the last year, Aaron Mallory has pleaded guilty twice to misdemeanor domestic assault charges. He is also currently facing felony charges from an incident in December in which he is accused of punching his wife in the mouth and pushing her to the ground after she refused to give him money to buy crack cocaine, according to court documents. He was arrested on the scene and later released from the Boone County Jail on $1,000 bond.

According to marriage license records from the Boone County clerk, the couple has been married since August 2007.
