SUV collides with city fire truck

This sport utility vehicle collided with a city fire truck at the intersection of Providence and Walnut on Thursday. The fire truck was responding to a residential structure fire at the time. The SUV suffered major damage.

COLUMBIA — A city fire truck collided with a sport utility vehicle at Providence Road and Walnut Street on Thursday morning.

Columbia firefighters were responding to a call of a structure fire at 310 Garth Ave., according to a news release. The truck left Station 1 at 10th and Ash streets before turning southbound on Providence.

The release states the fire engine had its emergency lights and sirens on when it was struck by the vehicle. The emergency vehicle only suffered moderate damage but remains out of service. The SUV had significant damage.

According to the release, the SUV driver was evaluated by an emergency medical technician but refused treatment. No other injuries were reported.
