Missouri Humane Society rescues more than 100 dogs

ST. LOUIS — More than 100 dogs allegedly living in filthy conditions at a southwest Missouri puppy mill are being rescued by the Humane Society of Missouri.

The group says the dogs, mostly Yorkshire terriers, were living at an unlicensed, facility near Pleasant Hope.

The animals were being removed Friday. Some appeared to be limping, possibly from living in cages with mesh bottoms that cannot support the small paws.

The Humane Society says many dogs had matted hair, and many had no food and water. Animal waste covered kennels.

The rescued animals will be cared for in St. Louis and will remain there pending a disposition hearing Feb. 20. If the Humane Society wins custody, as many animals as possible will be put up for adoption.
