Three arrested after woman interrupts burglary

COLUMBIA — A woman interrupted a burglary at the house of a family member Monday evening, according to a release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department.

The woman was checking the residence on the 6800 block of Route Z at about 5:35 p.m. Monday when she noticed several people had forced entry into the home through the front door, the release said. She recognized one of the people inside the house and confronted her. The suspect took the woman's phone when she threatened to call the sheriff's department.

The three suspects then fled the residence and were later located in a field near the house by sheriff's deputies, according to the release. All three were arrested.

Sheila Blunt, 46, of Columbia; Chad McGinnis, 33, of Columbia; and Shana Hughes, 24, of Columbia were all charged with second-degree burglary with a bond at $4,500 and second-degree property damage with a bond at $500, according to the release. Hughes was also charged with tampering with a witness with a bond at $4,500 and a no bond probation and parole violation warrant.
