The MU baseball team is predicted to finish in fifth place in the Big 12 according to the coaches' preseason poll that was released on Tuesday.
"The conference is as good as it's been," coach Tim Jamieson said. "There are a number of teams that could be in Omaha at the end of the year, and a number that could play for a national championship."
The Tigers start their 2009 campaign at 8 p.m. Friday against Nevada in Arizona. MU will play nine games in 11 days on their road trip to the Grand Canyon state.
"We're ready to start playing other people," Jamieson said. "The players are really starting to get anxious."
Jamieson said his team isn't phased about the preseason prediction or even the lofty No. 10 ranking his team has received from "Baseball America."
"It's nice to have the attention," Jamieson said. "It's the third year out of four years that we've been in the top 10. This team knows how to handle it a lot better than previous teams."
The coaches predicted Texas A&M to finish first in the conference with 81 points followed by Texas(69), Baylor and Oklahoma State(59), and Missouri(51).
