COLUMBIA — A Columbia man pleaded guilty to two felony counts Tuesday for pushing his girlfriend and then trying to persuade her not to report the incident to police.
The man, Cortez Dwayne Gardner, 23, withdrew a previous plea of not guilty and pleaded guilty to one count of second-degree domestic assault and one count of tampering with a victim.
Two other charges against him — one for kidnapping and another for property damage — were dropped.
Judge Gary M. Oxenhandler sentenced Gardner to up to seven years in prison, five years for the domestic assault charge and two years for tampering with a victim or witness.
The incident occurred last October.
