Cougars women hold off William Woods

COLUMBIA — The Columbia College women's basketball team defeated William Woods 73-69 on Thursday night at Southwell Complex.

Whitney Davis made two free throws in the last 9.7 seconds to assure a win for the Cougars (25-3, 12-2 in the American Midwest Conference).

Midway through the second half, the Owls (15-10) moved ahead 56-55, but the Cougars regained the lead in the last five minutes and never trailed again. The Cougars had led 38-32 at the half.

“Good teams compete, we expect a close game, we knew it was going to be a long game,” said Columbia College's Whitney Widaman who led the Cougars with 18 points. Julie Teeple scored 17.

The Cougars will play their final game of the regular season against Williams Baptist at 2 p.m. Saturday in Walnut Ridge, Ark.
