Rock Bridge places 15th at State Swimming Championship

ST. PETERS — Kate Hunt, a senior at Rock Bridge High School, competed in her last Girls State Swimming Championship on Saturday at the St. Peters Rec-Plex. It might have been the last swim of her high school career, but she is happy with what she has accomplished.

In this year's State Swimming Championship, Hunt competed in two individual events and two medley relays. She placed eighth in the 200-yard freestyle event and seventh in the 100-yard butterfly. She helped Rock Bridge place 15th overall.

Coach John Hamilton coached Hunt all four years of her high school swimming career. 

"It's been a joy to coach her for four years," Hamilton said. 

Hunt has been swimming for most of her life. She has been on a team since the second grade and swimming competitively since the fourth grade. 

Hunt's parents, Marj and Doug Hunt, were in the audience to cheer her on Saturday.

"They have always been there for me and have come to my state championships," Hunt said. "They bought all my swimsuits and T-shirts, which can be a great expense."

Hamilton says Hunt is a versatile swimmer and a lot of fun to coach. He hopes Hunt will be nominated this year for High School All-American Swimmer.

"I'm sad that the season is over, but I'm happy with what I have done," Hunt said. "I've had fun with all these girls and coach Hamilton has been really great. I will miss everyone."
