COLUMBIA — A Columbia manufacturing plant was recognized Monday for receiving the 2008 Top Plant award from Plant Engineering magazine. The national honor is given to only two plants per year.
The Square D molded case circuit breaker manufacturing facility, owned by Schneider Electric North American Operating Division, held a celebration of the award Monday morning. Columbia Mayor Darwin Hindman, Missouri Lt. Gov. Peter Kinder and Schneider Electric North American Operating Division executives all attended. Both of the winning plants will also be honored at an awards ceremony in Charleston, S.C., from March 29 to March 31.
"We are excited to be recognized as one of Plant Engineering's top plants for the second time in three years," Chris Curtis, president and CEO of the Schneider Electric North American Operating Division, said in a news release. Another Schneider Electric plant won the award two years ago. "The Top Plant award is a direct reflection to our ongoing commitment to partnering with our customers to provide quality, customized solutions that help our customers make the most of their energy."
According to the release, the yearly Top Plant award is given to exceptional industrial plants that effectively utilize the plant engineering function to achieve superior operational results.
Schneider Electric is a global specialist in energy management. The Columbia plant mainly manufactures the Square D molded case circuit breakers for commercial and industrial applications. They also do stamping and plating for sister plants.
