COLUMBIA — A 22-year-old man was arrested Tuesday morning on suspicion of trying to choke a 19-year-old female.

Jacob Brush of Columbia grabbed the victim by the throat, then rushed toward her wielding a screwdriver, according to a news release from the Boone County Sheriff's Department. Sheriff's deputies responded to the disturbance on the 8300 block of S. Trail Drive in the Midway area around 12:49 a.m.

Another man at the scene pulled Brush off the victim as he tried to choke her and stopped the suspect from lunging at her with the screwdriver. The suspect fled the scene heading west.

Deputies went to Brush's father's home but he was not there. His father later turned him in to the sheriff's department.

Brush was arrested and has been charged with second-degree assault and armed criminal action. He remains in the Boone County jail with bond set at $29,500.
