COLUMBIA - The Rock Bridge girls basketball team advanced to the Class 5, District 9 tournament final after beating Timberland 49-20 Tuesday night at Holt High School in Wentzville.

The Bruins, ranked No. 5 in the state by the Missouri Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association, were led by Amaya Williams' 20 points. Rock Bridge (22-4) started quickly and led 34-8 at halftime.

"We got out to a fast start, and our defense carried us like it has all year," coach Jill Nagel said.

Rock Bridge made six 3-pointers but also utilized 6-foot-3-inch forward Katherine Harry inside.

"When they tried to man her (Williams) up, we've got Katherine Harry on the inside," Nagel said. "She's a tough matchup for a lot of people."

Nagel said she rested her starters for most of the second half. Rock Bridge will play Troy Buchanan in the district final at 7 p.m. Thursday night in Wentzville.
